Psycho-Pass 2’s Scripts Overseen by Fafner’s Tow Ubukata

Mardock Scramble author takes over role held by Gen Urobuchi

Popular author Tow Ubukata is overseeing the series scripts in the Psycho-Pass 2 television anime series which ispremiering this October. Gen Urobuchi (Fate/ZeroMadoka Magica) held the same role for the first Psycho-Pass anime series.

Ubukata made his debut as a novelist while he was still a student at Waseda University, and his 2009 novel Tenchi Mesatsu garnered multiple awards such as the Japan Booksellers’ Award. His books include Mitsukuniden andMardock Scramble, and he has been involved in games, manga, and anime.

His writing has already appeared in the anime Le Chevalier D’EonFafner, and Heroic Age. His other current and upcoming works include the Ghost in the Shell Arise animeseries, the Sōkyū no Fafner: Dead Aggressor: Exodus sequel, and the Bakumatsu-era Gargoyle manga with artist Rururu Kondoh.

Psycho-Pass takes place in the near future, when it is possible to instantaneously measure and quantify a person’s state of mind and personality. This information is recorded and processed, and the term “Psycho-Pass” in the anime’s title refers to a standard used to measure an individual’s being. The story centers around the “enforcement officer” Shinya Kōgami (Tomokazu Seki) who is tasked with managing crime in such a world.

Naoyoshi Shiotani (Blood+Tokyo Marble Chocolate) directed the first series, and Akira Amano(Reborn!) designed the characters.
