OVA Adaptation of ‘Queen’s Blade Grimoire’ Announced

8fGTPbnA scan of the latest issue of Hobby Japan magazine, released on April 25, announced that Queen’s Blade Grimoire will be adapted into an OVA. Comprised of two disc volumes, it will be bundled with the release of the next visual combat book of the Queen’s Blade series in Fall 2015. The project is made to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Queen’s Blade. The staff members from the first season, Queen’s Blade: Rurou no Senshi, were also announced to return.

Queen’s Blade is a series of visual combat books first published in 2005 by Hobby Japan. Queen’s Blade Rebellion succeeded the original title and then was followed by Queen’s Blade Grimoire. The series received three TV anime adaptations, four manga adaptations, three light novels, and a video game adaptation.

Rail Wars Mages Game’s System, Mechanics Unveiled

PS Vita game inspired by novels, anime to feature original story


Game developer Mages announced on Tuesday the details of its upcoming game inspired by the anime adapting Takumi Toyoda‘s Rail Wars! -Nihon Kokuyū Tetsudō Kōantai- (Rail Wars! Japanese National Railways Security Force) light novel series.

The system for the game will be the PlayStation Vita, and will feature an original story. The game will also have a “Turn-out selection system” as a part of the game’s mechanics. More details will be unveiled in the July 24 issue of Kadokawa’s Famitsu magazine on Thursday.

The “dream railway paradise entertainment” story of Rail Wars! is set in a parallel world where Japan did not privatize its national railways. Naohito Takayama is an ordinary high school boy who dreams of a comfortable future working for the top-rated Japanese National Railways. He is assigned as one of four high school trainees in the Railways Security Force. Also in his group is Aoi Sakurai, a female troublemaker who hates men. On top of his sudden transfer, an extremist group called “RJ” plots to privatize the Japanese National Railways.

The anime adaptation of the novels premiered on Japanese television earlier this month, andCrunchyroll is streaming the anime as it airs. Sentai Filmworks has licensed the anime for North American release.

Gangsta. Action Manga Gets TV Anime

The wrap-around jacket band on the sixth compiled volume ofKohske‘s Gangsta. manga is announcing on Wednesday that a television anime adaptation has been green-lit. The band also lists that the cast from the manga’s drama CD will be returning, with Junichi Suwabe as Worick Arcangelo, Kenjiro Tsuda as Nicolas Brown, and Mamiko Noto as Alex Benedetto.

The manga revolves around Nick and Worick, two men who take on jobs from both the mafia and the police in the town of Ergastulum, a rotten town filled with mafia, hoodlums, prostitutes, and dirty cops.

Kohske launched the original manga in Shinchosha‘s Comic @ Bunch magazine in 2010.Viz has licensed the series for North American release, and will ship the third compiled volume in English on August 19.

Strobe Edge Shōjo Romance Manga Gets Live-Action Film

Creator Io Sakisaka‘s Ao Haru Ride manga also inspires TV anime, live-action film


The August issue of Shueisha‘s Bessatsu Margaret magazine is announcing on Saturday that a live-action film adaptation of Io Sakisaka‘s Strobe Edge manga has been green-lit. The shōjoromance manga ran in Bessatsu Margaret from 2007 to 2009.Viz Media published the 10th and final volume of the manga in North America in May, and it describes the manga’s story:

American Library Association’s (ALA’s) Young Adult Library Services Association named the manga in its 2014 list of Great Graphic Novels for Teens. Sakisaka is now serializing another manga called Ao Haru Ride inBessatsu Margaret, and that manga is inspiring both a television anime this summer and a live-actionfilm this December.

 

Sailor Moon Crystal Gets 1 Million Views on Niconico in 2 Days

Niconico‘s stream of the first episode of Sailor Moon Crystal has been viewed more than 1 million times in two days, and has approximately 250,000 comments. The Japanese simulcast stream on Niconico had approximately 140,000 viewers alone. Niconico is streaming the series in 12 countries.

Niconico will post the second episode, which will feature Sailor Mercury, on July 19. The new 26-episode series will stream worldwide twice a month for one year with Kotono Mitsuishi reprising the starring title role. The anime will also star Hisako Kanemoto as Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury, Rina Satou as Rei Hino/Sailor Mars, Ami Koshimizu as Makoto Kino/Sailor Jupiter, and Shizuka Itou as Minako Aino/Sailor Venus.

Sailor Moon Crystal is also streaming in North America on Crunchyrolland Neon Alley/Hulu.

Tonari no Seki-kun Manga Has Over 3 Million Copies in Print

The August issue of Kadokawa’s Monthly Comic Flapper magazine announced on Saturday that Takuma Morishige‘s Tonari no Seki-kun(My Neighbor Seki) manga has over three million copies in print.

The original manga revolves around a girl named Yokoi who sits next to a boy only known as “Seki-kun.” During class, Seki-kun continues to not pay attention and instead creates amazingly thorough little distractions, such as a detailed golf course with the course’s hole being a dent in his desk, or an entire dramatic war being played out by paper shogi pieces.

Morishige began his manga in Media Factory‘s Comic Flappermagazine in 2010, and it inspired an anime earlier this year. The manga was nominated in the 5th Manga Taisho Awards in 2012. Kadokawa will ship the sixth compiled volume of the series in Japan on July 23. Vertical has licensed the manga for North American release under the title My Neighbor Seki.

 

One Piece Gets 2-hour ‘3D2Y’ Anime Special in August

“Mysterious episode” to feature content not previously shown in anime, manga

The One Piece television anime series is getting a two-hourspecial next month as part of the show’s 15th anniversary celebrations. The “One Piece ‘3D2Y’ Ace no Shi wo Koete! Luffy Nakama to no Chikai” (One Piece ‘3D2Y’ Overcome Ace’s Death! The Oath With Luffy’s Crewmates) special will air on August 30 from 9 p.m. to 11:10 p.m. on Fuji TV stations.

The “mysterious episode” will be a completely new work that will have content not previously shown in the anime or the manga. The special will focus on the “3D2Y” code that Luffy’s crewmates must decipher, and will take place during the Straw Hat crew’s two-year training period. The special will also feature Luffy’s secret hakitraining with Rayleigh.

Toei Animation producer Hiroyuki Sakurada said that the special will not just include Rayleigh and Hancock, but also Buggy, Mr. 3, Mihawk, Perona, and Admiral Sakazuki (Akainu), among others. Original manga creator Eiichiro Oda will design a new enemy character, Bandy World, who will have the ability of the “Moa Moa” fruit. Bandy World escaped from the sixth level of Impel Down during the Marineford battle, and he is now shocking the world with his former crew by taking out Marine battleships and prominent pirates one by one. The World Government summons the Seven Warlords to take care of World, but he manages to capture them. Now World has his sights set on Boa Hancock. Oda also provided a comment on the new special, nothing that at the end of the special, “a must-see surprise for fans is waiting.”

Viz’s Shonen Jump to Publish Rurouni Kenshin’s Shishio Spinoff

2-chapter manga tells story of how Shishio Makoto & Yumi Komagata met

The July 14 issue of Viz‘s English Weekly Shonen Jump digital magazine will publish the first chapter of Nobuhiro Watsuki‘s “Honō wo Suberu –Rurouni Kenshin: Uramaku-” (Controlling Flame –Rurouni Kenshin: Hidden Chapter-) spinoff manga. The second and final chapter will run about one month later.

The two-chapter manga tells the story of how Shishio Makoto and Yumi Komagata met. The manga also tells the secret of how Shishio formed his organization, the Juppongatana. Shueisha published the first chapter in the August issue of Jump SQ. on Friday.

Shueisha revealed the manga in the June issue of Jump SQ. The tagline on the announcement read: “The flag-raising of the evil that evil fell in love with is finally being revealed.” Watsuki is penning the all-new work to accompany the two live-action films that are slated to open on August 1 and September 13 in Japan.

Novelist Kaworu Kurosaki had revealed at Otakon Las Vegas in January that her husband Watsuki is penning a manga about enemy characters.

Watsuki is put his Embalming manga on hiatus to draw the new manga, and he plans to resume the series with the start of the final arc this fall.

Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei: Out of Order PS Vita Game’s 1st TV Spot Unveils October 30 Release

Bandai Namco Games began streaming the first TV spot for the Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei: Out of Order PS Vita video game on Monday. The video reveals that the game is scheduled to ship in Japan on October 30.

The video informs viewers that the game will feature a new story written by the original novel’s author,Tsutomu Satou.

The game will ship in Japan on October 30, with a normal copy of the game retailing for 6,170 yen (about US$61), while a limited edition version containing an original art box, a special contents Blu-ray disc, a drama CD containing an original story, an original soundtrack for the game, six clear bookmarks, a special booklet containing production notes from the game, and a product code to obtain three in-game costumes will cost 9,980 yen (about US$100). The first costume has been unveiled as a physical education outfit.

The television anime adaptation of Satou’s Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei (The irregular at magic high school) light novels began airing in April. Aniplex of America is streaming the series on four sites in North America as it airs.
